Description
The Waikanae Jobs for Nature project is an ambitious multi-year effort to restore the Waikanae River catchment in collaboration with the Department of Conservation and Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai (ĀKW). It aims to build capacity and employment within ĀKW and the Kāpiti community and to achieve environmental integrity by implementing the six key kaupapa of Whakapapa, Wairua, Mana, Māramatanga, Te Ao Tūroa, and Mauri.
We are seeking an experienced coordinator to ensure delivery of the Waikanae Jobs for Nature project for ĀKW and to support the implementation of the ĀKW Kaitiakitanga Plan.
As Iwi Coordinator your key responsibilities would include:
- Coordination and facilitation of internal ĀKW relationships with project partners and the wider community
- Supporting ĀKW’s role on the Waikanae Jobs for Nature goals
- Acting as a conduit to ĀKW’s decision makers
- Identifying, recruiting and inducting ĀKW members into employment with the Waikanae Jobs for Nature project
- Building capacity within ĀKW to take over the long term management of the Waikanae Jobs for Nature project
- Ensuring a te ao Māori and ĀKW perspective
- Providing cultural and other training for prospective employees
- Education across the wider community about ĀKW as mana whenua
Desired skills and experience:
- Five years experience as a coordinator or project manager
- Strong understanding of Te Ātiawa tikanga and values across the rohe
- Sound understanding of tikanga Māori and proficiency in Te Reo Māori
- Experience writing and delivering reports to stakeholders
- Current drivers license
- The legal right to work in Aotearoa (New Zealand)
